Place To Lay System Review

The author Paul Fowlie of the Place to Lay System has been kind enough to provide us with a copy of his Place To Lay system so that we can provide a review of this system. The author of the system is Paul Fowlie who also very kindly sent me his results going back to January 2008.
The results make very impressive reading. Based on level stakes of £100 and allowing for 5% commission, for the year of 2008 the system found 1,355 selections which netted a profit of £15,590. For the current year of 2009 up to and including the 3rd of July, 752 selections have been found netting a profit of £6,781.
It makes a refreshing change to see a system that has NOT been back-fitted in order to produce some amazing results which obviously are not sustainable.
The system revolves around LAYING horses in the PLACE market. The comforting factor is that no horse above the odds of 3.0 (2/1) will be layed.
For the purpose of this exercise, I will lay each selection found, for one point and I will apply a 5% commission on any winnings.
On a nightly basis I will post the Place To Lay System selections found for the day/evening. On average, there should be about four selections each day.
The System’s E-Book suggests that the trade should be placed just before the start of the race. However, for the purpose of this exercise and for consistency, I will record the results of the selected horses based on BetFair’s Starting Price.
The nature of the system is that the “Key” races can be identified the evening before the day’s racing. In theory, it would then require human intervention to place the LAY trade on a betting exchange. In this day of automated trading, I guess you could just about get away with using some sophisticated software to place the trade automatically.

Final Summary:
I guess the results speak for themselves.
It is really difficult to see how a system like this could ever work.
At the end of the day, to have any chance to win on a gambling market, you need an edge. To base a betting system on the fact that the BetFair place market is mathematically unsound over a long period is very naive.
There is certainly NO edge in trying to exploit the inefficiency of a BetFair market because virtually all BetFair markets, where there is a reasonable amount of liquidity, are very efficient.
Over a short period of time it may appear that the system may be performing well, but in the long run there is only one winner with this kind of system and that is BetFair who are very happy to collect our 5% commission fees.
Unfortunately this system resides in the NOT recommended section.

It is interesting to see your results compared to another “site” doing a review of this system.
I set up a “bot” in “simulation mode” and my results are exactly the same as yours – not too good at the moment.

Yes, I have seen that other “Site” post up the results……Unfortunately, they have been getting some rules incorrect.
You must be a very clever person to be able to write a “bot” for this system……
Bearing in mind, not all the rules utilise BetFair and the fact that you would need to “Screen Scrape” something like the Sporting-Life Website……?
Not clever at all I am afraid.
Just a compromise that seems to throw up the same selections as you – a few have been different though I must admit.
I will watch with interest as “place laying” liabilities are far more acceptable and there could be some merit in studying more in this area.
@Chris I bought a system from them once before.
Got it delivered by mail pretty quickly, but also received a printed edition by mail.
Not immpressed by results so far! I’ve bought three of PF’s systems in the past and all have promised big profits from unproofed past results and all have made marginal profits or small losses over the long run while taking up quite a bit of time and bank that could have been better employed elsewhere. Buyer beware -Do not believe the hype!
His Another Dodgy Favourite lay system once gave 7 out of 8 WINNERS in one day. Ouch!
I also followed his On course service and his Bismark and both cost me dearly.
If Mr. Fowlie makes “a living from betting” as he claims than certainly not with his System on Sale.
That whole laying stuff is nonsense anyways i researched and tryed this for a few years now (regular Readers might remember me) and i came to the conclusion that due to Exchange overprizing of lay odds and Bank requirements for sensible laying its just not worth it (at least for me and the few Bucks i can spare for betting).
I Accordingly switched to Backing Stuff and with excessive research over the last year i developed a method for Backing that yields a nice 30% Roi per month….combined with one decent tipster which i found over the last three years thats OK i guess.
And with that beein said i feel i would need at least a few thousand Bucks,…. maybe 10000 to get anything worthwile out of my stuff.
As i have only around 500 (!) to spare for betting pourpouse a hundred Bucks more per month in the Pocket is anything one can expect.
There is no superweahlth starting with 10 Quid and building up in a year or 2,… its just mathematicaly impossible.
If i would only have a bit more money… Fook.
And maybe one more thing,… a little personal study of mine i did recently confirms what i think i have read a while ago: The BF Place Markets work more efficiently than the win markets !!
Looking at the current results for this system i guess thats pretty much on spot.
So Lay betting for the Place seems rather pointless.
I could be wrong though…..
Sportsword claim £1000 a week profit on this one.
Reality, as always with SWP, is very different.

Ouch. I was right to warn those with any sense to steer well clear of Mr Fowlie.
His previous lay systems didn’t prove profitable either on other testing sites. Anyone remember Lay the Place? Now he has changed it to the Place to lay….hmmm.
Well fellas this System looks rather pointless,…. so probably one to be added to the garbage pile ASAP…..
