This is a review of Money Talks written by Anthony Gibson and sold by Sportsworldpublishing. We have got a new tester on board which will be writing the review of Money Talks and do at least one month of testing.

Here you see some graphs over the results (provided by the author)

Our new tester Jon will be writing more about this system very soon and start the live test in 3-4 days time :-)

Good day everyone!

Money Talks is a BACKING system using information available from bookmakers and then betting with Betfair in both the win and place markets. The system is marketed by Sportsworld Publishing for £95 which also includes one month´s selections via a non premium rate telephone service. The selection service can then be renewed for £65 every three months if required.

So, what do you get for your money?

Money Talks comprises of an 18 page manual which thankfully does not include the usual explanation about how to bet with Betfair etc that so many other systems include to fluff out their manuals! The author gets straight into the system and selection process from page 2. The system can be used for Flat racing, All Weather and National Hunt although there are a few race types that do not qualify.

The author then explains the strategy behind the selection process which, on paper at least, seems to logical. A particular statistical fact is carefully explained and illustrated with visuals from the Racing Post website, Betfair and Racing Post newspaper. The system has created a short list from the statistical facts which the author claims has produced his strike rates of 67% for win bets and 88% for place bets. One interesting point to note is that you are not required to study form and that the horses themselves are NOT part of the qualifying process. Rather, you will be looking for other specific information when making your final selection(s).

This requires you to check a particular page on the Racing Post website about an hour before the first race of the day to check whether certain horses qualify as a possible selection. You then check the price on Betfair and depending on the odds being offered you decide whether to back the horse to win or back for a place. The manual doesn´t make it clear whether you should back the horse in both the win and place markets but from my reading, I think you would decide between a win or place bet for each selection rather than backing the same horse in both markets.

It is then important to watch the live market and place your bet about 5-10 minutes before the Off. If you cannot watch the live market, the author recommends that you place a conditional bet with a bookmaker as if the selection drifts above a certain level, it becomes a NO BET.

The manual also includes advice on staking plans. The initial selection process should take you no more than 20 minutes to identify selections from the Racing Post and check whether they qualify for a bet. I will start the test next Monday (21 July) and run it for 4-5 weeks using level stakes and will post results here every day. I may not be able to test over weekends due to other commitments.

21 July – Day 1

The author of Money Talks produced his results sheets using level stakes of £100 for win market bets and a progressive 10% of bank stake for place bets. To enable a proper comparison with his claims of the very high strike rates, I will use the same staking plans with two starting banks of 1,000 (whatever currency you use) and I will also deduct 5% from winnings to show the net returns from Betfair.

Today was frustrating to say the least! Initially, there were three possible selections. However one of these never reached the odds/price criteria demanded by the system and had to be scrubbed a few minutes before the Off. The horse went off and won easily!

The second selection lost by a mile whilst the third selection also became a “No Bet” ten minutes before the race because it drifted outside the permissible odds/price but it did still get placed (2nd).

But, we have to stick to the system rules so today there was just one qualifying selection:

Windsor 18.20 Institute Finished 11th Betfair prices 2 mins to Off Win 2.26 Place 1.32

P/L -200

Let´s hope for better luck tomorrow

——————-

22 July – Day 2

There were 2 selections today, both of which WON! However, the system prohibited betting in the Place market for one of the selections because the odds/price being offered did not meet the system requirement.

Something I have found in the few days testing the system is that you have to keep checking the market throughout the day to make sure that early selections prices do not drift and are not then disqualified and also to check if other horses qualify during the day. So this isn´t a system that can be used to place bets before you go off to work etc.

Salisbury 15.00 Square Eddie WON Price Win 2.7 Place 1.42 Returned 161.50 and 35.91

Great Leighs 19.50 Evelyn May WON Price Win 1.61 Place No Bet Returned 57.95

Profit for day 255.36

P/L to date +55.36

I am keeping an Excel spreadsheet of results and daily P/L that is in the same format as the author´s results and which I will be pleased to email to Admin when the test is completed should anyone want a copy.

23 July – Results amended as Ouzbeck was NOT a qualifier. See comments below!

—————————–

23 July – Day 3

Just one selection today although there were several potential qualifiers where the odds/price never got close to the system rules. In fact out of 9 potential selections, 3 won their race, 1 was second and 1 third. The three winners won at SP of 8/1, 6/1 and 7/1. The SP for the horse that was placed second in the same race as the qualifying selection was 11/1.

The qualifier came 3rd

Sandown 19.40 Main Aim 3rd Win 1.62 Place 1.32 -100 on win bet and returned 30.23 on place

Profit for day -69.77

P/L to date -14.41

————————–

24 July – Day 4

Around midday, there were 11 potential selections but Betfair prices and system rules about race competitor prices reduced the list to just two qualifying selections. One of the disgarded horses went on to win at an SP 7/4 and three others were placed.

I have asked Admin to try and get clarification from the author about whether we should stick rigidly to the Betfair win market price or whether we can include selections that meet the Racing Post odds criteria even if the price on Betfair drifts a little above the maximum price stipulated in the system rules. (You may have seen the brief discussion between Ken Douglas and myself yesterday in the comments below).

Today´s final selections were:

Sandown 15.55 Visions of Johanna WON Win 2.50 Place 1.32 Returned 142.50 on win bet and 29.37 on place

Sandown 17.00 Detonator 2nd Win 2.48 Place 1.34 Returned -100 on win bet and 32.15 on place

Profit for day +104.02

P/L to date +89.61

I regret that I will now be away until Sunday evening so will start the test again on Monday 28 July.

————————

28 July – Day 5

Somewhat surprisingly, there were no qualifying selections for today. I could only find 4 possible selections but none of these qualified for a bet on the odds/price allowed by the system rules. One of the four possible selections went on to win at SP 13/2 and another finished 2nd at SP 4/1.

Profit for day 0.00

P/L to date +89.61

————————-

29 July – Day 6

Unlike yesterday, there were many potential selections today but after applying the system rules these were reduced to six. Of these, two became a “No Bet” as their odds/price were too long or too close to the nearest competitor at the start of the race. One finished 2nd and the other 6th.

There were also another 2 initial selections that were later discarded because of their odds/price that went on to win at SP 5/1 and 10/1 plus a further three horses were placed.

Today´s final 4 selections were:

Goodwood 14.50 Conduit WON Win 1.53 Place 1.21 Returned 50.35 on win bet and 20.50 on place

Goodwood 15.30 Infallible LOST 5th Win 2.4 Place 1.35 Returned -100 on win bet and -104.81 on place

Beverley 16.55 Steel Cut PLACED 2nd Win 2.38 Place 1.56 Returned -100 on win bet and 50.18 on place

Goodwood 17.50 Magaling LOST 4th Win 3.0 Place 1.48 Returned -100 on win bet and -99.35 on place

Profit for day -383.13

P/L to date -293.52

—————————

30 July – Day 7

What a frustrating day! At around midday, I had identified 28 possible selections which were then shortlisted to 10 potential qualifiers. Of these, just ONE qualified on the odds/price system rules. Of the other nine possibles, 4 won their race and a further 3 were placed.

The single qualifier was:

Kempton 20.30 Rose Street Placed 2nd. Win 3.3 Place 1.61 Returned -100 on win bet and 51.81 on place.

Profit for day -48.19

P/L to date -341.71

So, after the first full week, the stats are:

11 selections: 4 wins (36%) 4 placed (36%) 3 lost (27%)

———————————

31 July – Day 8

Today´s search found three selections easily, but with mixed results. At least we managed to end a losing run of 6 on win bets but our overall P/L is still disappointing for a system that claims to have a 67% strike rate for win bets and 88% for place bets.

Todays selections were:

Sandown 19.00 Marching Time Lost 6th Win 2.00 Place 1.29 Returned -100 on win bet and -94.59 on place bet.

Sandown 19.30 Cave Lion Placed 3rd Win 2.80 Place 1.33 Returned -100 on win bet and 26.69 on place bet.

Sandown 20.35 Askar Tau WON Win 2.34 Place 1.38 Returned 127.30 on win bet and 31.70 on place bet.

Profit for day -108.90

P/L to date -450.61

A bit frustratingly, the horse that won in Marching Time´s race could have been a selection but the odds/price were too long!

————————

1 August – Day 9

What a day for The MoneyTalks system!

I found 5 qualifying selections with FOUR winners and the other was placed.

Thirsk 15.15 Aflaam WON Win 1.42 Place 1.21 Returned 39.90 on win bet & 18.15 on place bet

Thirsk 17.00 Bonne Placed 3rd Win 3.15 Place 1.56 Returned -100 on win bet & 49.36 on place bet

Goodwood 17.15 Visit WON Win 3.4 Place 1.7 Returned 218.50 on win bet & 64.99 on place bet

Newmarket 17.55 War Native WON Win 1.82 Place 1.39 Returned 77.90 on win bet & 38.61 on place bet

Bath 20.45 Muftarres WON Win 2.76 Place 1.35 Returned 167.20 on win bet & 35.94 on place bet

Profit for day +610.55

P/L to date +159.94

So a very good day for the system and one that has put the P/L back into profit. Long may it continue!

————————–

4 August – Day 10

A disappointing day after last Friday´s excellent results. There were just four selections initially but only one horse became a definite qualifier according to the system rules on bookmakers´odds.

The other two “non qualifiers” finished first at SP 9/2 and third in their races. The qualifying selection was:

Ripon 16.15 Kossack WON Win 1.45 Place No Bet (odds too short) Returned 42.75 on win bet

Profit for day +42.75

P/L to date +202.69

—————————

5 August – Day 11

Just two race meetings meant there was only one qualifier today which was:

Catterick 14.30 Feeling Fab Placed 3rd Win 1.41 Place No bet (odds too short) Returned -100 from win bet

Profit for day -100.00
P/L to date +102.69
—————————-

6 August – Day 12

With all the race meetings today, I expected to find several qualifiers but there were just two selections:

Newcastle 15.50 Needwood Lad WON Win 3.00 Place 1.48 Returned 190.00 on win bet & 50.93 on place bet

Yarmouth 20.05 Askar Tau WON Win 1.40 Place 1.20 Returned 38.00 on win bet & 22.19 on place bet

Profit for day +301.12

P/L to date +403.81

———————

7 August – Day 13

Another good day for the system, slightly spoiled by the last selection finishing second beaten by a head!

There was a fourth qualifier which I did not include as the odds/price were just too long. The horse won at SP 11/4.

Yarmouth 14.20 Aakef WON Win 2.58 Place 1.23 Returned 150.10 on win bet & 26.00 on place bet

Yarmouth 15.50 Certain Promise WON Win 1.73 Place 1.29 Returned 69.35 on win bet & 33.50 on place bet

Sandown 20.25 Slip Placed 2nd Win 2.98 Place 1.42 Returned -100 on win bet & 49.86 on place bet

Profit for day +228.81

P/L to date +632.62

———————-

8 August – Day 14

Someone told me that the Olympics opened today as the number 8 is considered to be lucky by the Chinese. Well, a great shame the luck didn´t reach Haydock this evening!

Just two selections today which were:

Haydock 19.05 Servoca Placed 2nd Win 1.8 Place No Bet (odds too short) Returned -100 on win bet

Haydock 20.35 Amber Queen Unplaced 5th Win 1.77 Place 1.34 Returned -100 on win bet & -129.93 on place bet

Profit for day -329.93

P/L to date +302.69

So, after the second week the updated stats are:

28 selections: 14 wins (50%) 9 placed (32%) 5 unplaced (18%)

———————————-

9 August – Day 15

There were almost eight qualifiers today, but four failed to meet the odds/price system rule in the last five minutes before the start of the race. Interestingly, one of these (Miss Carlotta 17.40 Lingfield) did qualify until the horse drifted in the last three minutes and became a non qualifier. The horse finished unplaced.

This is a good example of why it is important to monitor the market right up to the Off. Money Talks is definitely not a “Bet and Go to Work” system. Today´s selections were:

Newmarket 15.15 Rainbow View WON Win 2.6 Place 1.56 Returned 152.00 on win bet & 62.21 on place bet

Redcar 17.10 Trip the Light WON Win 3.2 Place 1.55 Returned 209.00 on win bet & 64.35 on place bet

Lingfield 18.10 Seminole Unplaced Win 2.46 Place 1.25 Returned -100 on win bet & -129.60 on place bet

Ayr 19.20 Sea Salt WON Win 2.22 Place 1.26 Returned 115.90 on win bet & 28.80 on place bet

Profit for day +402.66

P/L to date +705.35

———————–

11 August – Day 16

A quiet day and just the one selection:

Windsor 18.20 Exceptional Art WON Win 3.25 Place 1.56 Returned 213.75 on win bet & 63.57 on place bet

Profit for day +277.32

P/L to date +982.67

————————-

12 August – Day 17

A poor day for MoneyTalks and strangely the two selections were also the two selections for the Little Acorns laying system!

Nottingham 18.25 Crackdown unplaced (3rd) Win 1.67 Place no bet (odds too short) Returned -100 from win bet

Nottingham 18.55 Tasheba Placed 3rd Win 1.58 Place no bet (odds too short) Returned -100 from win bet

Profit for day -200.00

P/L to date +782.67

——————————

13 August – Day 18

Oh dear, our losing streak continued today with a fairly major impact on our profitability to date. The selections were:

Beverley 14.10 Cosmic Sun Placed 2nd Win 2.30 Place 1.45 Returned -100 on win bet & 53.81 on place bet

Yarmouth 15.55 Myanmar Placed 2nd Win 1.69 Place no bet (odds too short) Returned -100 on win bet

Yarmouth 17.30 Trenchant Unplaced 5th Win 2.90 Place 1.29 Returned -100 on win bet & -131.25 on place bet

Profit for day -510.11

P/L to date +272.56

——————————–

14 August – Day 19

Four selections today which thankfully brought a losing run of 9 without a winner to an end.

Beverley 15.15 William Blake Unplaced 6th Win 2.25 Place no bet (odds too short) Returned -100 on win bet

Salisbury 15.40 Miss Rochester Unplaced 6th Win 1.75 Place 1.20 Returned -100 on win bet & -124.86 on place bet

Sandown 16.00 Censored WON Win 1.70 Place 1.29 Returned 66.50 on win bet & 30.96 on place bet

Sandown 16.35 Ebn Malk WON Win 2.56 Place 1.57 Returned 148.20 on win bet & 62.53 on place bet

15 August – Day 20

Profit for day -154.56

P/L to date +101.32

———————————

18 August – Day 21

A slight recovery today but to be just over 3 points up after three weeks using a 2.000 bank does not give me a lot of confidence in a system which is essentially backing short odds favourites.

Today´s selections were:

Lingfield 14.30 Meydan Dubai Unplaced 4th Win 2.20 Place not recorded as I forgot to check price (!)
Returned -100 on win bet

Lingfield 16.00 War Native WON Win 1.56 Place no bet (odds too short) Returned 53.20 on win bet

Yarmouth 19.20 Jennie Jerome WON Win 3.15 Place 1.68 Returned 204.25 on win bet & 74.42 on place bet

Profit today +231.87

Three weeks into the test and the updated stats are:

53 selections: 24 wins (45%) 17 placed (32%) 12 unplaced (23%)

19 August – Day 22

No selections today. I guess the cancellation at York didn´t help. There was one possible qualifier but where the odds/price were too long.

Money Talks System Review by Jon

The Money Talks system has been tested for 30 days and can be described as successful as it did end with a good profit. Whilst the test strike rates were lower than those claimed by the system author, the test was largely carried out in August when the weather severely disrupted race meetings and importantly the Going, so I was not surprised to see a lower strike rate from the test.

What I do like about the system is how easy it is to find selections and once you get into the swing of it, this really only takes 30 minutes or so every day. The one big disadvantage is that because you have to monitor market price movements, you do really have to be in front of the computer all day to monitor changes in prices that may affect selections.

After using the system for a few days, I did manage to find a quicker way of identifying horses than the method described in the manual. One point to make is that you do not have to analyse form or any other race data about the horse. The system can be summed up as following certain trainers at certain courses and backing the selections if they are the race favourite at bookmaker odds of 2/1 or lower.

1) Locate trainers and their entries at certain courses for the day. Ignore a couple of race types.

2) Check odds are no higher than 2/1 a couple of minutes before the race start and that the selection is the favourite. Also 2nd favourite must be at least one clear Betfair point longer than system selection. (i.e. 2.50 / 3.75 – ok 2.50 /3.25 – not ok)

3) Place bet and collect winnings………..maybe!

There was a bit of confusion initially about whether selections at 2/1 odds should be included if their Betfair price was higher than 3. The author stated that the bookmaker odds are the critical factor, not Betfair.

Also, the system says to bet in the Betfair place market as long as the price is not lower than 1.2 (1/5). During the test there were 14 selections that were placed (not including winners) but there were also a further 16 potential place bets disqualified by the 1.2 rule of which 7 won and 7 were placed.

The basic stats from the Money Talks test were:

Days tested 30
Total selections 76
Total wins 39 (51%)
Total placed 14 (18%) but 69% including winners
Total placed no bets 7
Ave Betfair price win market 2.32
place market 1.35

Net profit on Win bets 1,039.55 (100 stakes, 5% BF comms deducted)
Net profit on Place bets 322.73

I would certainly recommend Money Talks as a good backing system that DOUBLED the win bet starting bank in just one month despite the appalling weather and racing conditions in the test month. But to get the most out of the system, you need to be able to monitor market price movements from at least one hour before racing starts and then through to the last race where you have a selection.

Certainly, I shall include Money Talks in my betting strategy and I have sent Admin an excel file of all bets, betfair prices etc should anyone want a copy.

    Hi Jon,

Very good resume of the system. Looks forward to seeing the test results :-) Thanks for helping making this site the no. 1 source for good and honest reviews.

Looking forward to seeing how this performs :-) Again a system with some very big claims. Would be interesting if it was just half as good as the advertising says :-)

very good job so far :-) keep it up ;-)

    Hi Jon

    Looks nice.

I have been looking over the results from the author. It would appear that on every selection a bet is placed on both the win and place market. You talk about some requirement, so I am wondering if the author has skipped selections whit a no bet.

  5. Ken Douglas on July 23rd, 2008 11:56 am

    Hi,
I have just come across your website and noted that there is a current test ongoing re the ‘Money talks’ system.

If I could make some observations about the results posted:-

21 July Windsor 8.20 Institute became a no bet as there should be 1 clear point between the favourite and second fav. Fav. 11/10 2nd Fav 2/1

22 July I agree that Square eddie should have been a bet, though the system is backed up with a telephone line and this horse was not mentioned

Ouzbeck was not a bet as the rules state that jumps races are only backed during the official jumps season
    Evelyn May was a bet

There was also an extra bet (phone) 8.20 Windsor Rhadegunda 2nd 2/1

    Regards

    Ken Douglas

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for your Input. I’m sure that Jon who is running this test will soon respond to it :-)

  7. Jon on July 23rd, 2008 1:44 pm

    Ken

Thanks for your observations and I would reply as follows.

Firstly, I am not using the telephone service and am identifying selections as explained in the manual. Due to the nature of the selection process, it is quite easy to miss a selection and as I said in my last summary, the system almost demands that you monitor the market throughout the day as selections drift and possible qualifiers shorten.

At the time of placing the bet on Institute the second horse was exactly 1 point greater than the selection. This I have found is a difficult area as Betfair prices are constantly moving close to the start of the race.

Square Eddie was definitely a bet and it´s a bit worrying that the paid for telephone service didn´t identify that horse. I found that selection at least two hours before the race.

I wouldn´t be very happy to pay for a service that misses very obvious selections!

I´ve re checked the system rules and you are correct. Ouzbeck should not have been selected as National Hunt races should only be selected between November and April. I will happily change the published results to reflect that mistake.

Rhadegunda was very close to being a bet and was mentioned in my summary on 21 July but it´s Betfair price drifted slightly above the maximum required just before the race start and so I did not include.

One of the problems with the system is using bookmakers´odds to confirm selections which are then often inflated on Betfair. My understanding is that Betfair is to be used to place bets and this does mean that there will be some qualifiers who are “no bet” from time to time.

    Kardi

Yes, there is a minimum price requirement for Place bets just as there is a maximum price requirement for Win bets.

Unfortunately, the author´s results give the fractional odds for win bets but don´t show Place odds, although they could be worked out by calculating the P/L for each place bet and the stake used!

    Jon

  9. ken on July 23rd, 2008 2:27 pm

    Jon,
I believe that win bets are selected at bookmakers prices, as he suggests that you strike a conditional bet where they will accomodate i.e No Bet above 2/1 (see page 11), obviously the place bets will be with Betfair.

    Ken

  10. Jon on July 23rd, 2008 3:09 pm

    Ken

That is not my interpretation of the manual. My manual is not page numbered but on the page following the heading “Finding Our Selections” where he shows two Betfair visuals, he quite clearly says that in that example he would back the horse to win. There is no mention of betting with bookmakers except for the conditional bet you mention which has been explained before.

If the author intended us to use bookmakers for win bets, why doesn´t he say so? However, I agree that the system would be a lot easier if we took the bookmaker odds and used those on Betfair even if the Betfair prices were say 10% longer to allow for the exchange´s price inflation.

Please do not go into too much detail about the system here as if fully explained no-one would need to buy the book!

    Jon,
Yet again yesterday the phone message did not give Visions of Johanna.
I rely on the phone messages because I am unable to access the racing post website at work

  12. Jon on July 27th, 2008 4:33 pm

    Hi Ken

Well, I really cannot comment on the phone service! I do know that Visions of Johanna was a qualifier, though. If you own the system and know how selections are made, you will appreciate that a horse may not qualify perhaps up until an hour or so before the race.

One of the system “weaknesses” in my opinion is that you have to keep checking the Racing Post every couple of hours during the day to see if there are new qualifiers.

As you may have seen, I have asked the Admin for this site to clarify the question of whether we should be using Betfair prices or bookies odds for win bets with the system author but have not heard back yet.

My point about this is that whilst the bookies odds might be 2/1 (decimal 3 on Betfair) quite often the Betfair price will be 3.5 or so.

I don´t want to get too specific about this here as that might give the system rules away which would not be fair to the author.

But if you want to discuss separately, please email me at jonsambrook@yahoo.com

Re Kempton 19.20 Hilbre Court Unplaced 4th on Day 31, this was a Claimer race and thus does not qualify..see page 16..

  16. Jon on September 4th, 2008 3:21 pm

    Hi KD

Yes, you are correct. I was monitoring so many races yesterday I simply missed the fact this race was a claimer. I wil adjust the test results accordingly.

Nice to know someone is still reading this!

What do you think about the system so far?

I am going to stop the test after tomorrow and will post my thoughts on the system. Overall, it works as shown by the results but it is very time consuming!

At last and having visited your site on many occassions I put in an order, for Money Talks.
Should I need any advise can I check with you?

  21. Jon on December 10th, 2008 6:43 pm

    Hi Fabian

Well, I imagine you have read the e-book and understand how the system works etc. I recommend you paper trade for a few days until you feel comfortable and then start with low stakes.

Whatever system you use there will be both winning and losing streaks so you must expect to lose now and then.

Money Talks performed well during the trial period a few months ago but I haven’t used it myself every day since then so really don’t know how it is doing at the moment.

    Cheers

Has anyone using this system found there are less selections now the Market Movers section on the Racing Post website is different?

  23. Jus on December 13th, 2008 12:26 am

I’ve been using the ‘Oddschecker’ Market Movers page but find this throws up a lot of selections.

Surely both Oddschecker and Racingpost are linked to the same bookies so should really throw up the same movers?

    Advice anyone?

Thanks for your response. I always paper trade before I commit real money – but systems
recommended on your site I trade with real
money a bit quicker – Already noticed there
were couple of horses that qualified, last Saturday, but were not mentioned on the telephone tipping service. As the system requires constant monitoring am not surprised the author did
not mention these horses, But then the results that are being published does it include all
horse that qualify whether tipped or not?

    Fabian

I think I should just clear up something! I am not the owner or admin of this site. I did the review of Money Talks and a couple of other systems but am just a reader like yourself.

You would have to take up your query about published results with the system author.
