Over the next few weeks we will be taking a look at the Formula2Win Horseracing System.
The refreshing thing I can report is that this is certainly NOT one of those scam systems which are produced on a weekly basis. However, just because it is not a scam does not mean it is any good.
The system is written by a person called Michael. I have seen some of Michael’s systems before and historically his systems are based on trying to find inefficiencies within the horse racing markets. The Formula2Win System is no different in that it tries to identify an inefficiency in the win market of certain horse races.
Unfortunately, some time ago I convinced myself that these inefficiencies, in the long run, just do not exist. Not wanting to boast, but I have at my finger tips the data on the last 200,000 horses that have run in the UK. This amounts to the last two years of horseracing incorporating the last 20,000 races.
The amazing fact that I can exclusively report is that the average number of runners in those 20,000 races is 9.87. The average winning BetFair SP over those 20,000 races is 9.84. Additionally if you look at say all the 8 horse races then you will find that the average winning BetFair SP is 8.08.
Basically, this is telling us that by the time the start of a race comes around, every horse is more or less at its correct statistical price. In other words the BetFair markets are extremely efficient in that all the horses that say go off at 4.0 do actually win 25% of the time as predicted by its starting price. Which I guess is pretty logical since the price is being set by so many different opinions.
Anyway, we are going to have to test this over a long period to see whether this system can defy the laws of Statistics/Probability.
The system revolves around identifying certain races during the day and having identified a race, the system then tells us to place a BACK trade on THREE of the horses in the race. For the purpose of this exercise we will be placing 1 point on each of our 3 horses. This does of course mean that if we place our 1 point stake on say a horse that wins with an SP of say less than 3.0, we will actually still lose on this race even though we have found the winner.
On a nightly basis, I will audit trail our selections. If it is a losing race for our system, then that will constitute a 3 point loss. If we have a winning selection then I will report the horse’s name along with its starting price. However, 2 points will be deducted from our winnings allowing for the fact that 2 of our selections lost.
We will be using the BetFair SP for all of our calculations and a 5% commission charge will be deducted from our winnings.

System Summary:
Well, we have given this system a month to prove itself and as expected the system has not lived up to past performances.
I say, as expected, since it is very well known that the BetFair markets are VERY efficient. There are NO anomalies that can be exploited.
The problem with these kind of mechanical systems is that even if it had a couple of good weeks of results, people would soon latch onto the idea and the odds of the selections would adjust themselves and within a few days the value would have disappeared.
The other thing about this system that I found annoying/confusing was the fact that on many occasions the system was finding winners but we were still losing overall on the race. There has to be something fundamentally wrong with the staking system for this to be happening so often.
The system did so badly that it really is worth considering doing the exact opposite to what the system sets out to do.

Nearly 3 weeks of testing this, the results does not give any vote of confidence. On the bright side, seems like a good laying system?
